Pig-a-palooza 2

Like last year, I'll be cooking for this fundraiser in support of Jacob's Ladder. Put it on your calendar and plan to attend if you're in the area on June 4th.

I'm also looking to enlist the support of my fellow pitmasters to help mind the pits & grills, pull the pork butt, or donate rubs & sauces to this worthy cause.

Here are the details:

Pig-a-Palooza is the prmary fundraiser for Jacob's Ladder Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity that was dedicated to the memory of Jacob Kellogg a highschool freshman who passed away in January of 2009. The Foundation provides scholarships to deserving kids in the southern Illinois area. Due to the success of last year's Pig-a-Palooza, Jacob's Ladder Foundation awarded over $7,500 in scholarships to some truly exceptional kids. Help us double that amount for this year by attending Pig-a-Palooza.

Jacob had a passion for good music and good BBQ -- hence the name Pig-a-Palooza. This year, there will be a BBQ festival from 3:00 to 7:00 and then a concert under the stars from 7:30 to 10:00.

FROM 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm YOU WILL ENJOY A BBQ TYPE FESTIVAL WHICH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

THE FOOD: You will be served some exceptional BBQ including ribs, pulled pork, hamburgers, hotdogs and sides.

THE DRINKS: Nothing goes down better with a rack of ribs than an ice cold beer. And we will have plenty of that, and wine, and soda, and water.

STUFF FOR KIDS: There will be huge inflatables, a mechanical ride and a dunk tank. I think there will also be plenty of live pigs for the kids to pet.

THE AUCTIONS: We will have both a silent and oral auction that feature some truly unique items that you don't see at the average fundraising auction. Want to watch a Cardinal game from the press box and meet some of the players being interviewed before and after the game? Well, then bid high and bid often.

THE MUSIC: We will have a disc jockey playing the songs you request from 3:00 to 7:00.

There is no entrance fe for this portion of Pig-a-Palooza. The prices are a la carte.

THEN BEGINNING AT 7:30 YOU WILL BE TREATED TO A CONCERT UNDER THE STARS FEATURING TRIXIE DELIGHT.

TRIXIE DELIGHT is a legendary St. Louis cover band that actually played at the Cardinals' home opener this year. They specialize in classic 70s, 80s and 90s rock. See their website at

The concert will take place at the park's amphitheater. Admission for the concert is $20 per person. Kids 11 and under are free.

We will be selling beer, wine and soda at the concert, as well as hamburgers and hotdogs. If there is any pulled pork left over, we'll sell that as well.

If you can’t attend Pig-a-Palooza this year but wish to donate to this worthy cause, you can do so on line at Jacob's Ladder

Please e-mail any questions to deatrice@charter.net.

Thanks, and we can't wait to see you on June 4.

Cheers,
Braddog
