Update: Traveling with the Bubba Keg
Monday, May 18, 2009 at 12:55PM As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had the opportunity to travel with the Bubba Keg over the weekend. One of the key differentiators between the Bubba Keg and other Kamado style cookers is it's transportability.
Unfortunately, we ended up without access to a vehicle with a hitch but decided to carry the Bubba Keg along anyway. While it's designed to mount onto a receiver hitch out of the box, the Bubba Keg is light enough and durable enough to put in the back of a van (which we did).
It's a two person job but it comes on and off of the stand easily, the cooking grate locks in place, and the lid has a clasp that keeps it securely closed. Since the cooker was inside the van with us, I worried about it rattling around and even smelling up the inside of the van. Fortunately, neither was an issue. Its cooking grates seemed very secure and rode silently inside the Bubba Keg and with the lid latched shut there was no odor. The only thing that's a little awkward is finding somewhere to place the side tables, and they did rattle about in the back of the van on the trip.
My next objective is to actually try it out on a trailer hitch. I may have that problem solved soon.
Cheers,
Braddog

Glad that you at least got to take it along with you even if you didn't get a hitch!
