Leaving the Nest - Egg Table Construction Part 4
Monday, February 16, 2009 at 6:46PM
We're coming down the home stretch on the construction of the table for my Big Green Egg. The framing is complete and now we're finishing the lower & top shelves. The hard part of the top shelf is cutting the giant circle for BGE to sit in. So we installed most of the top decking but only the middle board on the end where the Egg will sit. This was simply for an anchor point to be able to draw the circle.
Getting ready to draw the circle
And here we are with the whole cut for the Egg.
Now that's a big hole!
We also framed a spot to insert a ceramic tile work surface.
Top shelf framing
We're getting close to wrapping up the project. All we have left are the finishing touches. Hopefully I'll be able to provide pics of the finished product in the next post.
Cheers,

Your table is coming along great! You have great craftsman skills and you should be proud.
You're giving me too much credit. I've got a couple of great friends who are doing most of the work. Of course, I do most of the cooking! :)

Table looks great, Nice craftsmanship. I currently have a stack of lumber and a piece of marble that I am planning on crafting into a similar sort of design. How has the paving stone worked thus far? I am planning on using rutland fire bricks for safety. I am particularly interested in the electrical design, what you have is exactly what I want on mine - how did you do it and what parts were required? I saw the light on amazon and will be purchasing one of those - but not being much of an electrician the wiring section at home depot was a little mind boggling...
I may have missed it, b ut I'm trying to learn the cost of our materials. How much was it to build? Thanks.

Woody;
We tried to keep to the theme of building a table out of "stuff we had lying around", so it's hard to put a total cost on the project. I think we ended up spending about $100 (including the light). We only had to buy the light, some 1x4's for the top, and some wood putty. Everything else I or my two good neighbors had lying about.
